History of sailing
Originally, the yacht club was founded in 1720 on the territories of England. Then the British had a lot of followers, as a result, the concept of “yachting” began to sound more often in Europe. The first naval school very quickly recruited those who wish to study from all over the world. In the 19 century throughout Europe, it was possible to count about 200 such clubs. Because of this, sailing began to gain momentum in sport. And in 1900, it was officially included in the Olympic program as an official sport. Later, a community was formed, which organized the International Union for sailing races. Soon, the general rules were adopted, which are used in competitions to this day.
The characteristics of sailing competitions
It should be understood that this sport has many categories, types, subtypes, characteristics, clear requirements to the participants and their yachts. Sailing should be treated either professionally or in no way. There is a huge list of sailing sports and each has its own special features and conditions.
In sailing competitions is possible to participation on all types of yachts. It is worth remembering that yachting is still limited to the venue. More suitable locations are the sea, lake and river.
An athlete who is engaged in sailing is called a “yachtsman”. In this sport, the physical data of the participant is not taken into account. Regardless of the height or weight of the athlete, you can always choose a yacht for these characteristics of the yachtsman. Also, the participant is possible to divide to amateur and professional. To participate in professional competitions, the athlete must have the necessary assessment in training and special qualification. For each sailing group, there will be requirements for the participant. With amateur yachting everything is much easier. Usually the competitions are held with the purpose of conducting an active rest.
